Mom the counselor. I have also noticed it gets easier as my children get older. I have to be a mama bear for them whether it is scary or not.

Assertive is GOOD (because you staight your opinion in a nonconfrontational way), Agressive is BAD (because it makes the other person mad) and Passive Agressive is rough on everyone involved because it isn’t honest. I am still trying to practice on all of them too!

I agree that it is important to say what you mean. That doesn’t necessarily mean to say rude comments about people. To me, it means knowing what you want and what you like and being able to say it when asked. I agree with Stacey that it comes with confidence and experience. Believe me! I never spoke a word when I was homely and fourteen!

I would have to agree. I much more appreciate when friends and family tell me what they really think rather than just “lie” to me. You also have to learn that if someone does tell you what they honestly think…you can not take it personal and have your feelings hurt. Love ya girl and thank you for the post!

i agree you have to find a balance. your opinion means somthing, but you also dont want to be to blunt all the time. people may mistake you for being rude and tactless. i would much rather want people to know i would give my honest opnion/feeling rather than tell them what i think they want to hear.

I think we all go through a “nice” and unobtrusive-to-others phase for many years, but it isn’t always a good thing. I know I have gotten better about stating things the way I mean them and being more self-confident about my opinions. The only problem is when people take it to far and are super blunt and don’t think of others feelings. It is a fine balance. Nathan has taught me alot about this subject.
What is up with the Stuckis and their obsession with Time?:)
